Charleston Hope was founded out of the heart of a high school senior. As she watched her sister struggle through her first year of teaching in a Title 1 school, Emily Kerr, developed a passion to help. As she began to serve in her sister's classroom, she not only developed a heart for the students but for teachers as well. Fast forward to 2018, what started as a small initiative to love on students during the Holiday season is not a full-time non-profit organization that is empowering thousands of students and teachers annually.

As we've grown over the years, our organization has developed a model that centers on empowering teachers, supporting students, and building relationships to create sustainable impact. As our operations are based in a Title 1 school in Charleston, SC that serves a student population of 95% or more of students living at or below the federal poverty line, we have learned of the widening gap in resources, opportunities, and access that both our students and our teachers face every day. These are gaps that should not exist, gaps that limit students growth, and gaps that are creating high teacher turnover rate in our high-poverty schools. Our schools, teachers, and students need their community to surround them and support them more than ever before. And we're committed to showing them just that.

Through our programs, we support teachers directly in the classroom, provide students the targeted instruction they need, and equip community members to spend time weekly with students to empower and foster their learning and growth. We empower teachers by meeting their needs, showing them appreciation, and helping create a positive school culture that both them, and their students, look forward to walking into every day.

We believe in the power of creating with, not for. We are dedicated to working with our teachers, administration, families, and students to hear their thoughts and create programs, initiatives, and culture support mechanisms based on their needs. We can't do it alone though. We hope that you will join this week as we raise $50,000 to see our Board match it and together raise $100,000 to continue empowering our students and teachers.
